Nystatin

Nystatin is a polyene antifungal which is not absorbed when given orally and is too toxic for IV use.

Uses
Oral candida infection
Suppression of gut carriage of candida
Topical therapy of genital candida infections

Administration
• Oral candidiasis
1 ml (100 000 units) 6 hourly, holding in mouth
• Prophylaxis
Orally: 1 million units daily

How not to use nystatin
IV too toxic

Adverse effects
Rash
Oral irritation
