Do one of the following methods:
■ Count the number of QRS complexes
within a 6-second strip and then multiply that number by 10.
■ Memorize the sequence, 300-100-150-75-60-50. Start with
the first R wave that falls on a heavy line. Using the memorized sequence,
count each subsequent heavy line until you come to the next R wave; this is the
approximate rate (see below).
■ Divide the number of large boxes
between 2 R waves into 300.
■ Divide the number of small boxes
between 2 R waves into 1500.
Irregular rhythms should be
counted for an entire minute.
